PRO-TIP #1: Give yourself enough room to take power shots
One of the new features in FIFA 23 is the power shot, which is great for those who like to shoot from a distance. To perform it, hit L1+R1+Circle (on PlayStation), and manually aim using your left analog stick. Note that it has a longer wind-up and the controls are extra sensitive, so give your player enough room and start by aiming at the goalie.
PRO-TIP #2: Rotate, not flick, when dribbling
FIFA 23 introduces a new system called Technical Dribbling, which can be hard to master. The key is to rotate the left analog stick with minimal motion, instead of flicking it. If you feel like you're losing the ball more frequently, one way to maintain better possession is by tapping L2 to shield the ball.
PRO-TIP #3: Use your midfielders (and goalie) to defend
A common mistake is to leave the defending to your defenders. However, in FIFA 23, getting your defenders to step up to challenge an opponent will almost always result in them getting beaten by a through ball or lob. Instead, try using your central midfielder or central defensive midfielders to defend. If your defense is broken, bring the goalkeeper out in 1v1 situations by tapping Triangle.
It may take some getting used to, but the good news is that your hours of effort perfecting your control won't go to waste.
