Drivers With AES Summonses No Longer Have To Pay If They 'Kena Saman' Before 1 September

The government will cancel all AES summonses issued from 2012 to 31 August 2018.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced today, 17 August, that the government will be cancelling all unpaid AES summonses issued from 2012 to 31 August 2018

"The government has agreed not to collect all outstanding AES summonses up to September 1, as all of it will be cancelled,” Loke said during a press conference in Putrajaya today, as quoted by Malay Mail.

According to Malaysiakini, Loke added that there were 3.1 million unpaid summonses as of May 2018, totalling to about RM435 million in lost revenue for the government

Stating that this is a "one-off" gesture, the Transport Minister stressed that there will be no more discounts or cancellations for traffic summonses "in the next five years of our administration"

New Straits Times reported that the government is set to take over the full operation of AES in the country from two concession companies - ATES and Beta Tegap - from 1 September onwards.

"Therefore, the Road and Transport Department (RTD) will fully take over the installation of cameras and issuing of summons," he added.
